We live near Bracknell which is in Berkshire, UK. Bracknell is very close to Windsor, Ascot, Reading and London.
Although we are only a stones throw North of Bracknell town centre, the area has a completely different feel.
There are many hamlets around North Bracknell, but a lot of these are disappearing with the expansion of the housing developments.
Very close by is the infamous Quelm Lane a name that implies a gibbet where local highwaymen where hung.
Quelm Lane is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a man on a white horse who, children are told, will steal them away if they are out late at night. Dogs, apparently, will not walk down the lane (although we have seen plenty).
Bracknell town centre doesn’t have much going for it, but the surrounding retail parks cater for most entertainments like the cinema, eating out, or even skiing. Bracknell was once an area of Windsor great park, but started to expand during the 50’s and most notably during the 60’s. There has been talk of the town being pulled down and a new super town being built, these rumours we have been hearing since the millennium.
All in all the area suits our needs, it’s close to family (but not too close) and within commuting distant from London.
The area is open and pleasant, with good schooling, and, most importantly the kids enjoy it too.
